Current Preferred Skincare Products

preferred skincare products

Happy Saturday, ladies.  Today, I will share my current preferred skincare products…because you asked.

Before, I get into my current preferred skincare products, please allow me to remind you….

  • I am age 72.
  • Aging happens…wrinkles deepen…necks sag…no matter what the skincare products tell us…we will not reverse the process.
  • Skincare is affected by our gut …what we eat and supplements we take.
  • Skincare is affected by our sleep…or lack of.
  • Skincare is often hereditary…thanks mom!
  • Skincare is affected by our diet, exercise, and overall life choices (where we live, amount of stress, etc.)

So, with all of that in mind, I will share with you what I am doing currently and it does include MANY different price points…sometimes there is no need to spend great amounts of money.

For me, the goal is to look healthy and vibrant as I age.  I am not attempting to look much younger than I am.

Smiling does help with that though.

CURRENT PREFERRED SKINCARE PRODUCTS : THE BUDGET ASSISTANTS

These two oldies by goodies are at the top of my preferred skincare products.

Recently, I told you that I was removing my make-up with POND’S COLD CREAM.

Since the first of the year, I have gone a step further and used Pond’s in the mornings and evenings to cleanse my face…even if not wearing makeup.

This is my favorite to have a soft, supple complexion after cleansing.

I always clean my face with WHITE WASHCLOTHS…they are the best for your complexion.

I really thought I was modern and cool to get away from my Mother’s Pond’s Cold Cream…but, she was right, and I was wrong.  And I did waste money arriving at this conclusion.

I do believe this is the best way for me to cleanse my face and neck.

Has everyone seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding?

Well, castor oil is my new Windex…if you know what I mean by the reference…it is the miracle serum that does everything.

And this little bottle cost me a little over $2 a few weeks ago…and it does work!

I have used it to relax wrinkles around my mouth at night and to soften cuticles.

Last week, I had a crackled heel and it was very painful.  After treating it with castor oil twice a day and then wearing socks, it was healed and sealed after three days.

I also put it on a little knife cut after a kitchen episode…and it healed faster.

Castor oil is amazing and I say that without ingesting it!

It seems that many of us are either discovering or re-discoverying castor oil at the same time…so you can find trendy, organic versions HERE.

Or HERE.

Also, there are many castor oil brands to promote hair growth.

Or just stop by your local drug store like I did….I have been using it often and there is still a good amount in this little bottle.

I may try it on my “wisdom” spots that are literally ALL OVER my neck and chest and see if it helps with that…will report back.

CURRENT PREFERRED SKINCARE PRODUCTS : NEXT STEPS

After I noticed some changes in dryness of my complexion at the end of last year, I decided to return to a brand that I promoted for years…GENUCEL.

After I wash my face with the Pond’s, I apply this DEEP FIRMING SERUM next.

This is a moderately priced line, but I do believe it is worth every penny…at least for complexions that are in the same stage of life as I.

My complexion responds well to Vitamin C and to Collagen.

Over the years, I have also used XV-ANTIWRINKLE TREATMENT and liked it.

However, currently my preferred skincare products includes this moisturizer….

This is another reasonably priced product that I like.

It is the LOREAL COLLAGEN MOISTURE FILLER…and I use it twice a day now.

It gives me a healthy glow amd feels amazing going on.

When I approved to use product again under my eyes after the cataract surgeries, I will continue to use GENUCEL EYE BAGS & PUFFINESS TREATMENT.

CURRENT PREFERRED SKINCARE PRODUCTS : MAKEUP

preferred skincare products

I was always a fan of Bobbi Brown’s serum foundations, and products, so last year, I decided to give JONES ROAD a try…since it is her second company.

I like wearing a light, bright TINTED MOISTURIZER.  This is a very good product and what I am wearing most often.

And this is my favorite product…the JONES ROAD MIRACLE BALM.

Just in the last year, I noticed that anything powdery was sitting in the wrinkles…so I do love how this goes on so smooth, stays on and adds a little glow.

The only powder product I am currently using would be eye shadow.

But, it will be the middle of February before I can wear eye makeup again…after both cataract surgeries are done.

After that I will do a post about how the eye/and glasses situation has changed and how it might change eye makeup choices.

I did share that I will trying for eye make up removal the NEUTROGENA GENTLE OIL FREE EYE MAKEUP REMOVER.

CURRENT PREFERRED SKINCARE PRODUCTS : IN TESTING

preferred skincare products

I do want to let you know when I am trying new products and we will see together if they hit the Preferred Skincare Products list.

In my past, I did share how much I benefitted from microneedling products with an esthetician.

So, when Seranova contacted me, I was interested to try the at-home version….and compared to going to a salon, this price is incredible.

I have only used The SERANOVA MICRO INFUSION DEVICE for two days.  It still feels like little pins on the face, but the product feels good once on.

I will report back, but the other comments I read from users were very good.

Currently, I am applying my collagen cream after use at night.

I am considering ordering SERANOVA DEEP COLLAGEN CREAM just to compare it with Loreal…it is a little more expensive at $39 a jar, but I that is still in the reasonable catagory.

These are all I have currently in the preferred skincare products I use.

I will keep you up to date, and also share more about makeup in mid to late February…when I can wear my full face again.

Please leave comments or ask questions, I hope this helped the one asking about skincare last week…now…until tomorrow…

  1. I have gone back to Pond’s too; the smell brings back such good memories. I have been using much more expensive products but have considering the L’Oréal products. I am glad to see your thoughts about them. I have used Neutrogena eye makeup remover for years; I remove eye makeup with Neutrogena, then use Pond’s, and a final cleaning with Micellar water, then serum, face cream, and eye cream. My eyes are sensitive so I am careful here.

  2. These picks look great. I’m using Clinique Take the Day off balm, which doesn’t require a separate eye makeup remover or a dual cleanse, but I know it’s oil based, so wouldn’t work for those who need to avoid that in the eye area. It takes off literally everything, even waterproof mascara. I use Cerave in the tub at night on both my face and body in the winter, because I have incredibly dry skin. In the morning I use Kiehls Ultra facial cream, very inexpensive and effective. I love jojoba oil like you like castor oil. In addition to how you use yours, I warm it and soak my fingertips in it several times a week (massively improved fingertip dryness, cuticles, nail health), and rub it into my hair and scalp a couple of hours before I wash my hair on days I do that. Vaseline on lips and under eyes at night. Prescription Retin A. That’s it on the skin. I’m a bit of a makeup junkie, but have been trying to streamline. A huge recommendation is Elf’s Lash Extender mascara. It’s a tubing product, so it comes off with water, and it doesn’t smudge or budge, even through a sweaty gym workout. And it’s $7! I swallowed hard and threw away all my high end mascaras and don’t miss them at all.i watch Doctorly on you tube … two dermatologists who point out how much good skin care is out there at reasonable prices.

  3. Great suggestions! I don’t know if it’s being in the dregs of winter but my skin could use a boost. I’ve been trying to up my skincare game. I recently got some of The Ordinary products in the hopes of brightening up my dull skin. So far, so good as far as no sensitivity. I also just started CeraVe night cream for more moisture. I’ve been very interested in the Jones Road make up line and happy to see you like it! There’s a store not too far from me so I will definitely be planning a trip there. I will be trying the castor oil since my hands and feet are cracking in this cold weather and it really hurts!!
Thanks for the tips! I love to hear from someone our age who finds great products!
Bitter cold here in the northeast, but thankfully no snow this weekend!
    Happy Saturday!!!
    Linda

  4. I also put the castor oil around my lips at night! This has been the biggest beauty surprise to me ! It really helps.

  5. I do use a doctor formulated skincare line, and it works really well for me. Also using the red light therapy face and neck masks. My favorite IT tinted cc cream has sunscreen in it, and medium coverage, so that is perfect for covering my wisdom spots!

  6. Great post ! Going to try Castor Oil. I take eye makeup off with Neutrogena pads – for waterproof mascara. Wash in the AM with Philosophy Micro Cleanser – and then Philosophy When Hope Is Not Enough serum. Dollar Tree eye cream – really. Prai neck cream, and Bare Minerals Tinted Moisturizer with SPR. Evening – take off the eye make up, use Philosophy Purity to cleanse, L’Oreal Midnight Cream and a little ROC retinol around my mouth. I am going to try L’Oreal Day Cream…coming today from Amazon. Thanks for all the tips…doing the best we can to look good and FEEL good !

  7. I was a huge fan of a product by Garnier for moisturizing, but they have discontinued it. The main ingredient was aloe vera, which I use mixed with lotion as a body moisturizer…so I thought, I will mix up some aloe with Pond’s, and see if I can recreate the feel of the Garnier I had loved. It worked, mostly! ☺️ I still wash my face with Ivory bar soap, but then immediately moisturize. After that, I like to mix a mattifier/sunscreen with a little dab of foundation. As you can see, I enjoy playing with my products!

    Happy Saturday! 🪻🌷

  8. I have used Ponds for makeup removal for years. I have tried other brands but always come back to it. I will try the castor oil. Thanks for the tip.

  9. Thank you for sharing this. Because of the dry air of winter my face does need something different. I might try the LOreal Also the Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer is another I might try. I like a little coverage. I have tries her Miracle Balm. I still have to get used to it but once it’s on I like it. No powder to set in the fine lines.

  10. Thanks for sharing about the castor oil. Your experience using it on your cracked heels is especially helpful, since my hands & feet are really taking a beating with the bitter cold & the indoor dryness caused by the heat running so much. I will give it a try.

  11. My skin care starts with an eye doctor’s recommendation of washing my eyelids with Johnson’s Baby Shampoo which I do. With my white washcloth, I then wash my oily forehead, nose and chin with it. Rinse and then wash my face and neck with Aveeno Foaming Face wash. Rinse. Apply Nutragena Hydrogel to forehead, nose and chin then apply Advanced Clinicals Hyaluronic acid cream lightly to the rest of my face and neck. I use Aveeno Daily Cream on my arms, legs and bottom of my feet. My husband uses it too! I’m 81 and of Finnish descent so very fair but have mostly oily skin so Ponds would never work for me. The only makeup I wear is a light touch of Merit Cheeky cream blush, eyebrow pencil in Taupe and rose pink lip by Nutragena. I do have No Makeup Makeup for a few light brown spots on my left cheek but rarely use it. I live in the high dessert of southern Colorado in a very small mountain town. Breathing fresh air everyday with a mile walk really helps too.

  12. I love the way my complexion feels after using Ponds and the collagen cream. I think you will like the castor oil, Mary,

  13. I like it for the way my face feels with it and it lasts for awhile. The Miracle Balm. Thanks Paula.

  14. It does help and my nail tech told me to also use it around the cuticles of my toenails…I am going to be slathering castor oil everywhere!

  15. Thank you for the tip about castor oil for cracked heels and cuticles. I’ve tried just about everything, so why not give this a go?

  16. Give it a go…and it doesn’t cost much at all. I am so pleased with how it worked and now trying it on those wisdom spots. I will report back on that!
