Important Security Reminders Over 60

Good morning, everyone. I have something different for you today with Important Security Reminders over 60.
This is the day I usually do a devotion for you, and this is a type of devotion with Scriptures at the end, however we must discuss important security reminders over 60.
Many of us have watched with great concern and sadness the story of Nancy Guthrie, Savannah Guthrie’s mother.
Her face is like a mirror to many of us where we see a mother, grandmother, woman of a certain age who has been missing for days….and hopefully found alive by the time of this posting.
We must continue to pray for Nancy and her family. Prayer is so important and that is why Savannah asked us to “pray without ceasing.”

Though there is yet so much to learn about what has happened, the security reminders are there and remind me of what I learned during my attack in 2022.
This article from the Associated Press took me back….SHERIFF SEARCHING FOR SAVANNAH GUTHRIE’S MISSING MOM CALLS LACK OF VIDEO A DISAPPOINTING SETBACK.
Before I share the post which told my story, I need to share a little background.
We had set up a RING CAMERA system at our house well before May 2022, and while I liked the security of it…the continual pings to my phone became wearisome for both me and Mr. B.
So, we allowed the subscription to end.
But, in early 2022 I was moved (I believe by God) to renew the subscription…though nothing had happened that motivated me to do this. I was 68 at the time.
Now, here is my post about the attack….BEWARE: CRIME CAN HAPPEN TO YOU. IT DID TO ME.
Within this post, you can see the Ring Video which eventually led to this man’s capture…and he was a repeat sex offender.
The police encouraged me to post it on The Next Door App, so I did, and someone saw him the next day in a local park and called the police.
What happened to me had nothing to do with blogging or being online…I was just a woman walking a dog.
He would have harmed someone else in our neighborhood that morning if I had not been there.

My story has actually been a mighty testimony for the Lord.
The televisions report, the District Attorney and His staff, neighbors, people online have all asked...”Why did the man (who was holding a lawn mower blade over my head) suddenly leave?”
Mr. B had not come downstairs yet, so what did the man see? I believe God’s protecting angels. And I believe this with my whole heart.
You can hear on the video that I was a little freaked out…so I did not process and realize how God protected me until later.
And I could not breathe for a moment out of love and realization that He was there.
IMPORTANT SECURITY REMINDERS OVER 60: TAKE IT SERIOUSLY

I pray that footprints like this are never in your home.
Please do not discount the current lessons from Nancy Guthrie’s story as something that has happened to a famous family.
If you have allowed a Ring or Nest or any camera system to go unsubscribed, renew the subscription today.
And if you do not have a camera system I highly recommend you get one or discuss with your loved ones getting a system.
It was the Ring Camera footage which lead to the capture of my attacker.
Also, make sure that a relative or close friends know how to get into your phone. Give the numbers or password to someone close. This is very important and keeps authorities from having to beg one of the phone services to open the phone.
There are some that will not do this, and often they find information that helps an investigation.

Finally, if you struggle with fear (like I often have especially since 2022) read Psalm 91 daily…especially at night…and do this every single day.
When you pray, place your name in the Scriptures as I have here and pray the words directly from your Bible.
God will reassure you of His love and protection.
Though the perpetrator still entered my home, God protected me.
And join me as we come together to pray for Nancy’s protection and for her family’s comfort.
If you would like to share any security reminders of your own, please do. We must help each other with information.
Thank you for being here for this post about Important Security Reminders Over 60...until tomorrow….
DO NOT FEAR & TRUST THE LORD
By Pamela Lutrell

Yes, praying for Nancy Guthrie and her family. All must feel so confused and helpless. A good reminder, Pamela. I still remember how shaken I was when you were assaulted. This morning’s devotional is a good reminder that we need to help ourselves as well as depend on God.
Yes…to both. Thanks for being here this morning, Deborah.
Thanks for sharing this, Pamela and for the good advice. At age 62, my husband & I are going to finally install Ring cameras around our house. Luckily, my nephew said he would help us! I am glued to all of the coverage about Nancy Guthrie. I am praying for her safe return.
I am glad you are taking your safety seriously, Ann.
Thank you for today’s message. The memory of your attack helps to keep me situationally aware when I might otherwise assume safety, owing to living in a small town. I carry pepper spray in my purse. As we move back up to the greater metro area of Portland later this year, we will take extra measures. The plan is to live suburban, but that isn’t a fail-safe. We will keep my dad’s Guardian pendant service, for when we are out, add exterior cameras and an alarm service, and make sure all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in good working order.
Sounds like you have a good plan, Connie. I did not carry pepper spray until this happened to me…and now I do. Thank you for sharing.
Pam, I remember when this happened to you. But I didn’t realize he was holding a lawnmower blade over your head. Wow! That’s scary
Any this was a good reminder to make sure we stay safe and don’t take anything for granted. We have a house that is somewhat remote (we have some neighbors, but they are not close) and we do have ring cameras but I still don’t like staying there alone.
I do pray they find Nancy Guthrie’s safe return to her family.
It was the District Attorney’s office who confirmed that it was a lawn mower blade…of course, I had no idea at the time. Pray Psalm 91 every time you are alone, Paula. Pray for God to station His army of angels at your doorways and your gates. He is out protector.
I’d never let my Ring subscription run out. I have both front and back door cameras, and I use them all the time to answer the door when I don’t recognize the person, to basically tell them I’m not interested and go away. I’ve used them to chat with my brother when I was in Paris and he was pet sitting!
And as an aside- lock your doors during the day. You may ignore this, or habitually leave the back door unlocked, as I used to. Imagine my fear when I came up our hallway and discovered two total strangers, a man and an older woman, in my great room. (They came in the back door.). I almost ran for the gun I keep in back, but they were panicking too. Turns out they were searching for their daughter’s home, who had recently moved in next door. But why would you just walk in, and the back door?? They are very lucky I did not do what intended…
All great advice, Susan. Thanks for sharing.
Great advice today, Pam! I wanted to let you and anyone reading this that there are doorbell cameras out there that don’t require a subscription and yet do store footage. So if one has privacy concerns, or just doesn’t want to commit to yet another monthly subscription, look for one of these. Mine is by Eufy and I’ve looked back at least two weeks and the footage is there. It does get written over eventually, but not for quite a while. I have it set to alert only on humans so no worries about animals or cars on the street constantly bothering you.
Thank you so much Yvette…this is very helpful and I am thrilled to hear about these.
We all are praying for Nancy Guthrie. To live alone in such a remote area at age 84, updated camera video, and other security measures becomes a real necessity!
I hope and pray she is found soon!
Hi Pamela,
I will never forget when you had such a horrific experience. When you go through a life experience like this it’s the day that changes your life forever. My heart sank when you shared this scary experience. It seems like you have recovered well because events like this can create PTSD.
I have had bad experiences with men also and it has left me with being in a state of high alert when I’m out especially by my self. I try to look low on profile and wear baggy casual comfortable clothing. Leave my high expensive designer bags at home as well as good jewelry.
We leave in a guard gated community on in a country club on fairway 10. It’s not totally secure. We have done everything else we need to do on our property to insure our safety. Two impossible screen doors that no one can break into that cover our doors.
I have been extremely upset over the abduction of Nancy Guthrie. I know about where she lives. We are about two hours from Tucson. I know Tucson fairly well.
I have been praying ever since this happened. I’m a huge fan of Savannah Guthrie ever since she became host and morning anchor of the morning Today show. I also have read her book. You would enjoy it, she is religious.
Thank you for enlightening us in all the things that we can look into. Peace of mind is everything.
Stay safe out there.
Hugs and be in Joy.
So do I Paulette…she has been in my prayers and on my mind.
Thank you, Katherine. I am also more cautious when I go out and watch my surroundings…the only I go out at night is when Mr. B is with me. No worries about those typos…I have been making so many through these eye surgeries. Get some rest, my friend.
Praying for this mother’s return safely and for all those who are facing or have faced a fearful situation. Keep doors locked, keep a camera going on the doors. Keep prayers going in your heart.
Thank you, Mary.
Yes, to all comments! We are in our eighties and have doorbell and outside cameras front and back. Prayers for Savanna’s mothers safe return.
