Monday Notes for Women over 60

women over 60

Happy Monday, all.  Welcome to my Monday Notes for Women over 60.

Today’s Monday notes for women over 60 is a little different that what I originally planned.

I am going to share this story, so that all women over 60 can be careful NOT to do as I did this past weekend.

We took a quick day and a half road trip with the intention of returning to Abilene early on Sunday…then I could work on this blog, and Mr. B could work on a project he does every Monday.

It was a good plan and we also wanted to stop at one of our favorite places and do some eating and shopping.  (More about that later!)

It was a great plan…until I lost the car keys.  Really lost the car keys.

We began what would become a two hour search…I even paid some teens on scooters to help me search a park area where I was walking Tux.

They were great and I watched them do a complete job over the large park…but ended up to avail…and I paid them enough to cover sodas and treats for their efforts…but offered more if the keys were located.

Mr. B re-walked and re-visited every place we had gone.

Near late afternoon, I called the local police to tell them we might be leaving a car there until we could figure out what to do…our son-in-law was driving behind us and could take us the rest of the way home if needed.

But, prayers were answered when I called the police…they had the keys!!

What happened?  Well, I dropped them in the restroom when I made a stop.  I decided I wanted to use my scented hand sanitizer and must have dropped the keys while digging in my handbag.

So, far every guy Mr. B has told the story to has said…Why did she have the keys out in the restroom?  I have gone on record asking him to leave the location out!

Believe me…I have promised Mr. B that I will never do this again…we arrived home after dark and tired.

So this will be a shorter version of Monday Notes for Women over 60…but I can promise you a fun week ahead!

MONDAY NOTES FOR WOMEN OVER 60: UNIVERSAL STANDARD

A cold front blew in while we were out and about, but I was prepared with this Henning Soft Park Trench by Universal Standard.

This is a very soft, water-resistant trench that is perfect to hold off those cold breezes and drizzle….plus it is long and made to fit many women.

Universal Standard is a brand for women sizes 00-40.  I am actually wearing a small in this coat…and I am the one pulling on the front of it with hands in pockets to keep warm.

I love the belted sleeve cuffs on this trench…perfect to protect the hands of any women over 60!

If you have been searching for sizes that fit different sizes of women better, then check out Universal Standard.  And their BLACK FRIDAY specials are here.

  1. I understand losing your keys. I lost mine at a University of Illinois football game. Never were recovered. With the key fobs now quite expensive to replace. Now I travel with a a concerned effort to secure them better.

  2. I am so sorry that it was never found, Shelia…and those college football games are packed. I am with you and will be extra, extra careful from now on.

  3. I get so distracted, and my husband does somewhat also. We have learned it’s just something to deal with. So now when we travel, each time we leave a place, we do a verbal check/reminder to each other for phones, wallets and keys. We don’t just answer yes, but do a physical check. It sounds silly, but it’s prevented a lot of inconvenience. I have a friend who has left her phone and her winter jacket on a plane or in a rental car multiple times. So it’s not just you! Funny … I told the story of where you found the keys to my husband, and he -didn’t- say, what were her keys doing in a restroom. He totally understood, which is why I say we need a little system. I’m glad they were found … all’s well that ends well.

  4. Losing keys in today’s world, especially when they are attached to that fob which is quite expensive to replace, can be a very traumatic experience. I’m sorry that was part of your weekend travels, but fortunately someone had turned them in to the police. My Mr. B and I each carry an additional set of keys but because mine are so heavy I have removed the fob to only carry that, and then forgotten to put it back on my key ring. Don’t worry about us readers…we know life throws us curves. We’re just thankful your keys were found and you got home.

  5. I keep my keys clipped to either my purse or the belt loop of my jeans and rarely misplace them. But when I do, I feel like it is panic time! Hubby misplaces his more often, so we bought a keyring with a tracker in it that works with his phone to locate it. It has helped us a few times. Highly recommend!

  6. Oh, dear! I believe there’s a device kids use to attach to their phones and tablets in case of loss. Not sure if it can be attached to keys, but also pretty sure this will never happen again. So glad somebody had turned them in to the police!

  7. Thanks Celia. We located the second FOB this morning and it needs a battery. On my TO DO list this week.

  8. A woman yesterday asked me if I had the locate key app. I did not know there is a locate key app. I might research that this week. Thanks Kim.

  9. It is one of those lessons that caused me such panic that I do not plan for it to happen again. Thanks Connie.

  10. All I can say is bless your heart. I have been there, done that, and I wish I could say that was the last time!

  11. It’s a dilemma when I see things that appear to be lost someplace. If I turn them in then if the person comes back looking for them they aren’t there. A note in the restroom that keys had been found would have been helpful to you!

  12. Maybe time to consider Tile Trackers? Clip them on your keys (or other often misplaced items) and track them down with a phone app. A bit of an expense, but maybe worth it in a case like this. (Lots of cheaper options on Amazon too, of course.) I’m considering these as a Christmas gift for my parents this year. In their 90s… hate to think of them in a situation like the one you just went through! Glad you found your keys. Oh–and thank you so much for your lovely new devotionals each week. Love them.

  13. My husband and I try to take both sets of keys with us when we travel. One time we were heading to our north woods home and when we got there my husband reached into his pocket to get his keys out to lock the car. They weren’t there we thought they fell out of his pocket somewhere but why does the car start. I forgot I had my keys in my purse and when we got back from our weekend his keys were sitting on the counter.
    Key fobs are nice but!

  14. I’ve put AirTags on every set of keys and in my husband’s wallet – he tends to wander. They have helped find items so many time. My husband’s phone is in the Rome airport lost and found for 3 years now. Occasionally AirTag will remind me to go get it. I can only dream!

  15. We have air tags attached to our key ring (fobs), so can locate them easily. We always use them in our luggage as well. So sorry this happened to you, stay well!

  16. Oh my…I hope it will be the last time. We will travel from now on with the extra in a safe place!

  17. The air tag idea sounds good. I always keep my key fob zipped inside my purse in a little compartment with nothing else so I can’t accidentally pull it out with anything else. We both have our fobs and house key with us when we go anywhere, just in case. My Mr. B is a triple checker. I would be the one to be distracted. I haven’t lost my keys yet but almost left my purse at the stylists! Brent always asks me if I have everything I came in with before we leave. I’m so sorry you we through all that stress.

  18. The fire station where she turned them in is right next to the place where the restroom is…we should’ve thought to check with them early on. It would have made sense.

  19. Thanks Donna…I will check into this! Thank you also for the encouragement with the devotionals.

  20. Our car woulod not start so we knew they were not on us or in the car…what was when I began to panic!

  21. I am learning new things to do from everyone here so hopefully the next misstep will be averted!

  22. Oh Pam, I am so sorry for all the stress and worry for the lost keys. Very glad they were recovered and thank you for the warning of how easily it can happen. And thank you to everyone who suggested AirTags. My husband constantly misplaces things so I think he will find a couple in his Christmas stocking this year.

I never had a chance to comment on how meaningful yesterday’s post is. Dealing with a combination of blessings and challenges at the same time now. Its so important to be thankful for the blessings and pray for strength to safely navigate the challenges. We are so thankful my husband was not seriously injured. He’s still very sore and shook up. So thankful he was not hit again when he was spun across the road into the guardrail. On a happier note, the kitchen is finished. Its brighter and feels so much larger even though the layout hasn’t changed. Now I need a little downtime.

  23. Yes, you do need downtime, Kathie…relax and enjoy your new kitchen. I did not go through anything near to what your husband has been through. I will continue to pray for both of you and that you receive much needed rest.

  24. I was feeling your stress today! The same thing happened to me when we stopped at a highway rest stop. Another couple overheard our distress and offered to forgo their plans to drive us an hour and half home and then back.) Luckily I retraced my steps and discovered where they had fallen. (Restroom, Ugg) We go through the checklist now, too, (wallet, keys, glasses) and always travel with both sets. How wonderful that the police had them. You deserve time off for that event. On another note, I love seeing you dressed for cooler weather. Well done! I was happy to hear from Kathie about her husband and some of these funny stories. Love the phone in Rome! My DIL discovered that her wallet was missing in Loch Ness. A week later when we were flying home from Edinburgh, she found it at the airport in lost and found. There are good people out there!

  25. There are so many good people…the woman who found the FOB took it to the fire station and they gave it to the police. The young gamers on scooters who helped me look over the park were great kids! They took the search so seriously and I enjoyed working with them..LOL.
So glad that I am not the only one to lose something in a public restroom!

  26. Late to the party, but my son-in-law somehow managed to lose his key fob somewhere between their house, the grandson’s daycare, and the gas station where he stopped on the way to work. We searched everywhere and it was literally just GONE. There was not a second fob because they bought the car used from an individual, a choice I hope they never make again. It cost $1,800 to have the Acura dealership reset the computer functions to answer to the replacement fob, and they were without the car for ten days. This could have been so easily avoided by having a tracker on a keychain, easily available on Amazon. They have a tracker on their dog and the kids wear bracelets with them when attending large events like soccer tournaments, etc. (we have two who will disappear in a flash) but for some reason they have never added them to their keys. I know what he’s getting for his bday later this month!

  27. You just made me so happy I found the keys. I did not know it would cost that much to replace!! Wow!
