Monday notes for Women Over 60

Happy Monday, friends! Welcome to Monday Notes for Women over 60!
Monday notes for women over 60 is a lifestyle post where I cover what has been going on in my world from the past week, and little tease about the week ahead.
First off, I confess I was nervous about losing weight over 70 and wondering if my tried and true ways of the past would work.
I am so excited to share that I am back in the saddle again on a healthy living journey and I have lost 6 pounds so far with the Weight Watchers App.
I also know that I have lost inches, though I have not officially pulled out the measuring tape…sometimes you can just tell in how clothing fits.
There is a long path ahead of me, but I am hopeful once again that I will get back to where I was before the foot surgeries and move….and continue on.
So, let’s begin today in Monday notes for women over 60 with the clothing challenges from the past week.
MONDAY NOTES FOR WOMEN OVER 60: AUTUMN HEAT

Last week I had planned to go see my grandson swallowed by a whale!
That’s right…he played the lead role of Jonah in the first grade production of Jonah and The Whale…and, of course, it was a brilliant portrayal….I am not biased one bit!
The weather for the past week has been near 90 several days in a row and I was frustrated as to what I would wear to the play.
Most of my hot weather clothing is packed away and most of my fall clothing is still too warm the wear for 90 degrees!

But, I chose to go with school colors that day of blue and gold. (Even the though the school colors are royal blue)
I have showed you my Talbot’s spring cardigan before that is very lightweight.
This was an excellent purchase from an old Red Door Sale…I say excellent, because I wear it often.
I wore it with my Eileen Fisher crepe navy pants; a Chico’s v-neck knit cardigan; and gold accessories.
This is an event where you see several women over 60…the grandmothers…and they were also dressed in lighter clothing for the heat.
MONDAY NOTES FOR WOMEN OVER 60: NAIL DAY

The day after the play, was nail day for me!
And I love the color my nail technician found for me…such a beautiful creamy vanilla shade.
It is by OPI called “Be There in a Prosecco.” (I would love to ask the reason why, but rarely do these names match up with the colors!)
I told her I wanted a neutral that would compliment all my holiday fashions.
MONDAY NOTES FOR WOMEN OVER 60: TIME TO PREP

When I read this quote in the book The Christmas Pearl, I believe I said a resounding YES, out loud.
I love the preparations for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, but this year, Thanksgiving is very different.
Most of our family is not around with other plans…so for the first time ever, we are going to begin decorating for Christmas next weekend.
I also do not know what Christmas holds with our family…still attempting to confirm plans for everyone.
But whether the house is full or just a few, I love it to be the Cozy Christmas House it has been for a long time.

Something I shared with you last year, is that Abilene is a fantastic place to shop vintage decor.
I found precious vintage Christmas decorations last year in a couple of the shops, so this week, one of my goals, is to go out to those shops again.
For example, I discovered the best people and animals for my Christmas village…just love them…and the village could use a few more.
Our Christmas village is a favorite with the grandchildren…and they love new residents to move in.
I will let you know what I discover.
PAY ATTENTION: I hope some of you will email to me your holiday decorations and/recipes! We have done this in the past and it is so much fun to see what other blog readers are doing. Just send to [email protected].
I will post any that are shared in the Monday notes.
Thank you for joining me today for Monday Notes for Women over 60…leave any questions or thoughts…and thank for being here. I hope to see you tomorrow…until then…
KEEP SMILING!
For all your shopping, please use the links on my SHOPPING PAGE…thank you, thank you to all who shop this way and show support for this blog. It means the world.

Thank you for this reminder that I am supposed to attend “Generations Day” at the private school my granddaughters attend this Friday! Somehow it had slipped my mind, but I love your idea of wearing a variation on their school colors, which are navy and green. I have a lightweight Tommy Hilfiger blue and green argyle sweater (I think came from your argyle trend post!) that I can wear with navy dress pants, and if it ever cools off I can add a navy blazer. If it’s still in the low 90’s I have a sleeveless blue and green geometric print top I can wear with a thin cardigan or one of JJill’s gauze jackets. Thanks for starting off my week with this inspiration; it’s a busy week and now I won’t have to think about what to wear. They always offer professional family photos for those attending, so I want to look nice. Can’t wait to see what you find in the local shops to add to your holiday decor, and I hope you are able to celebrate with at least part of your family so they can enjoy the results.
I was going to include a photo of me with Jonah, but there was information about the school in it. I did not think about that when we took the picture, but it was cute with his costume. Have fun on Generations Day!
Congrats on the weight loss! I’m trying to lose some before traveling again, because I do want the olive oil, bread and gelato on my trip! I’ve found healthy living a journey that just never really ends, and that’s ok, so long as most of the time we are going in the right direction (which I wasn’t this summer, but I am now). We finally have cool weather, but I was in that fashion limbo also. We had an early tease of fall and I packed up summer clothes waaaay too early. I’ve come to think transition clothing (your light cardigans and dark linen and cottons) are the true workhorses of our wardrobes, and deserve more attention. Enjoy your holiday preparations … such a wonderful season.
I agree that in climates like Texas and Florida there are pieces that never get packed away! And I am still wearing linen. Hope your trip is amazing!
Good for you with your weight loss! I’m still struggling but I know if I follow and track my eating on WW it will work.
We are also going to decorate for Christmas next weekend because we are not having Thanksgiving at our house. And then we can enjoy the decorations longer.
Congratulations on your weight loss progress. Isn’t it nice when clothes start to feel looser? Its been warm here too though not hot. Mornings are often chilly and afternoons 30-40 degrees warmer. So layers on, off and on again in the evening. I have an old fleece ruana I wrap up in in the evening. Its getting pretty ratty. I’m eyeing one at Chico’s. Our Chico’s reopened this weekend and are having a grand opening on Saturday so I may go take a look. Its one size so it may to too much fabric for me but it will be fun anyway to shop in person after nearly 14 months.
I know you’ll enjoy your decorating and treasure hunting for additions to your village. I will wait until the day after Thanksgiving. I have one piece out, the new Santa Chef arrived yesterday and I had to open it. I will pack him back up today but its been fun looking at him.
Thanks for your prayers for baby River. He is home now and it appears that he is going to be OK.
Thanks Paula…WW really helps me…I have to be faithful to track my points on the app, but when I do, it works. We will be doing the same next weekend…we tried this weekend but we were needed in other places. Let the fun begin!
I am so excited to hear about baby River, Kathie! Praise God! AND, I am jealous about a Santa Chef for the village…that’s fun. I have a nutcracker baker for the kitchen that I found a few years back and the kids love him. Finally, I am thrilled that you have a Chico’s re-opening. You should go to the grand opening for the fun of it…I bet they will have lots on their sale racks.
It’s good you got going with you WW app BEFORE the holidays reach full tilt. It is so easy to fall into a snacking-all-the-time mode, particularly with family and food around.
My children are going to their in-laws for Thanksgiving, something that I am anticipating as a well-deserved break for my kitchen! My husband had a fit, saying “can’t they come over and have dinner with us afterwards?” That was a resounding NO from me. It’s their day with their family AND why would I go through the trouble of cooking a meal for children who’ve already had a big meal that day?
I think we can make due with a turkey breast, some steamed vegetables, sweet potatoes and one or two of the pieces of pie they sell at the store. It’ll be a nice meal, not a long-weekend snack-a-thon or a two day in the kitchen event.
When they come for Christmas I can pull out the stops.
I understand, Rose! I told my husband and daughter I would cook the big Thanksgiving meal at Christmas. I actually asked him if we could eat out for Thanksgiving!
Congratulations on the weight loss todate. We know you can do it a few lbs. at a time, and the rewards are the best.
I really like the idea that your grandson’s school included Jonah, we all know the story, but seldom see a play. Glad you were able to include a picture.
Our Thanksgiving table will only seat 6 this year, and I promised my husband only a few Christmas decorations before
that day, but …. can’t wait to work on the house room by room. blessings always
Hi Audrey…it was the cutest play and at the end they gave a modern day example the kids could relate to. I really enjoyed it.
Congrats on the weight loss. One holiday strategy I employ is to wash and bag up my favorite veggies, as if I were prepping them for an appetizer board, then make a creamy herb and lemon dip. It feels indulgent, but is pretty healthy so long as I don’t overscoop the dip! 😉
My boys’ work schedules are quite incompatible this year for Thanksgiving, so I will be dashing up to spend a couple days visiting, bowling, and sharing a modified menu, then dashing back home to make the traditional full meal for my dad and husband. Next year I should finally have a daughter-in-law to plan with, cook alongside, and help to bring us all under one roof. 💖
Something wonderful to look forward to, Connie…but I am certain that your family appreciates all of that cooking!
Don’t ask if you can eat out for Thanksgiving; do the research, pick the place and make the reservation! And , if he questions it, tell him it’s an early Christmas present for him: a relaxed, happy wife!
I have picked the place…we will see what happens.
It is always a joy to see events featuring the grandchildren. Though mine are grown, I loved attending their performances when they were in orchestra & plays. I am going to start decorating for Christmas over the next two weeks. The tree will hopefully be going up early next week since Thanksgiving will be at the older daughter’s house. Some people have asked why I decorate since I live alone. The ones who are also alone say they don’t bother, but I do it for me. I love being welcomed home by the wreath on the door, the tree & all the other decorations.
I would do it for me as well, Becky…it just brings us a smile…doesn’t it? I hope to always decorate for Christmas!
Your grandson’s play sounds delightful. We had our Thanksgiving dinner party yesterday with the whole neighborhood celebrating there. The food was delicious and the company great. Christmas is just the two of us and has been since all of the grandchildren are adults and off living their own lives. We texted videos and pictures of each of their families celebrations. I would still put up our simple decorations too even if I were alone. I have not written this note and it is saying it is a duplicate!
So glad you had a wonderful neighborhood celebration!
