Cozy at Home + A Soup Recipe

cozy at home

Happy Friday, all!  Welcome to a new post…Cozy at Home + a soup recipe…..soup and cozy just go together.

This post about cozy at home was written three days ago with the faith that all would be well with the first cataract surgery.

Everything around me has come together right now to be cozy at home.

Recovery from the surgery…and a winter blast of cold into Texas…with possible ice and snow.

The timing in of my life right now and all it entails is aligning perfectly.  Thank you, Lord!

So join me as I share how I will be cozy at home this weekend….

COZY AT HOME + A SOUP RECIPE: COZY ATTIRE

cozy at home

When I am dressing to be comfy cozy, but nice, at home, I often turn to kimonos, wraps, ruanas, and ponchos.

I share with you selections from J.Jill’s New Arrivals on Wednesday, but in January, I also purchased three J.JILL RUANAS on SALE….and with 40% off the sale prices, all three were in the teens.

To be cozy at home, I am wearing one of those ruanas over my brown comfy pants from the CHICO’S ZENERGY LUXE COLLECTION...warm and soft.

Oh yes, and if you are cozy at home, take time to look over the CHICO’S NEW ARRIVALS...lots of black for you winter palette ladies.

My tank is from another soft, comfy collection I like at Talbots.

It is the AIRKNIT STRETCH V-NECK TANK IN IVORY…on sale.

In this, I am happy to receive visitors who may stop by, or sit cozy under a blanket near the fireplace.

Also, when I am cozy at home, I am most often wearing one of my TRAVELTIME CLOGS from Easy Spirit.

I will have more for you tomorrow from Easy Spirit, but always try my discount code PAMELA20, for an additional 20% off…it works for most of their promotions.

I do love my Traveltime Clogs.  And there are over 60 choices to select …I do own more than one.

I also want to mention something I have learned through the cataract experience.

First, I will not be able to wear makeup for almost a month…disappointed, but it is what it is….right?

Also, I must now use an oil-free eye makeup remover.

This is the one I am going to try….NEUTROGENA OIL-FREE EYE MAKEUP REMOVER.

Does anyone use this one?

COZY AT HOME + A SOUP RECIPE: TOMATO BASIL SOUP

cozy at home

On Monday, when I wrote about Addie’s soup event in her boutique, I did not have the soup recipes.

I am going to make this one…it was so good and Mr. B loves tomato soup.

Tomato Basil Soup

This recipe is my favorite Tomato Basil Soup recipe. It is part of my family’s cookbook, contributed by Jennifer, my sister-in-law. It’s easy, delicious, feeds many, and is so yummy with cornbread or a gooey grilled cheese.

2 cans (28 oz.) crushed tomatoes

1 can (14.5 oz) chicken broth

18-20 fresh basil leaves, minced

1 tsp. sugar

1 cup whipping cream

½ cup butter

In a large pan, bring the tomatoes and broth to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Add basil and sugar. Reduce heat to low; stir in cream and butter. Cook until butter is melted. Yields 9 servings.

Thanks to Addie for sharing her recipe with the rest of us!

Just looking at this makes me want a grilled cheese sandwich…now that’s cozy at home!

Here is where I will most likely spend most of today.  We do have snow and ice in the forecast and temps as low as 12.

Don’t make fun…this type of weather shuts down Texas…we are not accustomed to it.

But I will be Cozy at Home with this soup recipe…and hopefully healthy recovery.

Looking forward to the next one and singing…I Can See Clearly Now the operations are done…..

Thanks so much for being here, and I will be here tomorrow with a Saturday post…until then…

EMBRACE TODAY & KEEP SMILING!!

  1. I saw your post on Instagram & I am pleased all went well with your first surgery. It looks like you have everything you need to recuperate well. I had not heard about oil-free eye make-up remover after cataract surgery….I wonder why. I had cataract surgery 3 years ago and after being apprehensive about the first surgery, the second was “a piece of cake”. I hope you will be as pleased with the results as I was and the biggest difference for me was driving at night with confidence.
Take care and stay cozy. We are in heatwave conditions in Melbourne, starting tomorrow and I will be hibernating for different reasons!

  2. I am delighted to know that Round One went well, and I hope this comment finds you resting comfortably and staying warm as that winter storm bears down on us. I’ll be praying that power remains intact for both of us, and all other readers in the storm’s path. Having two houses to manage through these conditions is a challenge, but serving dinner to 100 of my homeless neighbors tonight was a good reminder that most of them would be so grateful for even one house to call their own. I use the Walmart or Walgreen’s store brand duplicates of the Neutrogena makeup remover and they do the same excellent job at a lower price. I typically stock up when Walgreen’s runs them “buy one get one half off.” Best wishes for a smooth recovery process, and I hope this will all soon be in the rearview mirror.

  3. Nice to know you are recuperating with good food and hopefully a warm house. I surely hope the power grids in Texas are in better shape this time around than last. Now that you’ve been through one surgery, you realize your anxiety will be less for the second eye…as Julie said, “ piece of cake”. Addie’s shared tomato soup recipe sounds easy and delicious; I might need to make a pot also for this weekend when we are now only expecting cold rain, but thankfully, not ice or snow like other areas of the South. Everyone stay safe and warm as this huge swath of icy weather blows across our country.

  4. I’m glad your cataract surgery went well. This weekend weather is going to be bad. We are not getting the ice like you’re getting but we have extreme cold.
Stay warm and I am going to try that recipe.

  5. I am so glad that your surgery went well! I had it over 10 years ago and still say it was the best surgery I ever had! No glasses anymore, just occasional readers. I have used Nuetrogena oil free eye makeup remover for several years. I also like the HEB brand! Best wishes for continued healing and a successful and a successful second surgery!

  6. Hello Pam. I will be joining you cozy at home with soup beginning on Sunday when a major snow storm begins to hit our area. We get one of these every couple of years..so pretty used to it- a foot of snow here is really a nuisance but life goes on with plows going around the clock, then sanding the roads….
Rest well Pam, and don’t neglect those drops. So important!

  7. It is negative 12 in Chicago without the windchill! But the sun is shining. Thank you for the soup recipe and prayers for a swift recovery. I love ruanas and dusters over a more fitted top and slacks. I agree that Wal-Mart and Walgreens have excellent products and better pricing for many brand name beauty products as the listed ingredients are the same I.e. Aveeno. Tuesday is senior day at Walgreens for their brand.

  8. Sooooo cold here in Ohio, and we are supposed to get several inches of snow starting this evening. All the schools are closed. I’m reading at the dining table across from a large sliding door, and the cold is coming right through the glass and also down the chimney in the fireplace. The weather guy said it will be like the winter of 2014, and that one felt like we were living in Siberia. The good news is that the snow cover will help the plants survive. No one should make fun of anyone who has temperatures of 12 … that’s cold for almost anyone, especially given climates where the houses and infrastructure are not designed for it. In our family, we call days like this “hunker down days”, in a good way that says cuddle up and take the day off. Pam, so glad to hear the surgery went well. Stay warm, everyone!

  9. You look cozy and chic today. Good timing for relaxing and recovering from your surgery yesterday. Glad everything went smoothly & you are looking forward to the second one. Thanks for sharing your sister-in-law’s recipe for tomato soup I read the post before going to the store and picked up all the ingredients I needed including a pot of gorgeous growing basil. My Mr. B is thrilled I’m making it today. I’m make mini cheese sandwich croutons in the airfyer for a treat. He will love that. Some ice and snow in the forecast here as well though the forecast keeps changing. We are thankful that we don’ t need to go anywhere if the roads are dangerous. While its still relatively warm today I’ll take down & put away the outdoor lights.

  10. So glad to hear that your first cataract surgery went well, Pam. It’s a cozy stay-at-home day here too. After unseasonably warm, melting temperatures last week, it’s a shockingly cold -34º C (-29º F) this morning. Schools are open, but the school buses didn’t run. Thankfully, the sun is shining though! I’m making kabocha (Japanese winter squash) soup today, but I’ve saved your tomato basil recipe and I’m definitely going to give it a try.

  11. Yes, a soup day here in southern Colorado too! It is now at our high of 20 and snowing off and on. We expect a low of 4. For me it will be a fluffy merino wool and cashmere blend sweater, heavier denim jeans, wool socks and my favorite Easy Spirit Travelfurr clogs. I like to read on days like today. So glad to hear your cataract surgery went well. Now except for those pesky drops, you can cozy up in your chair and relax. If seeing is difficult, just take the lens out of your glasses on your corrected eye and still have correction for your other eye until after your second surgery is done. It worked for my Mr. B. I didn’t think of it and struggled.

  12. I hope all is going well for you. It seems that this weekend will be a good time for many of us to be cozy at home. Here in central Indiana, it will be cold & windy (sometimes bitterly cold) with 8-12 inches of snow arriving late Saturday into Sunday. Tomato Basil soup is one of my all-time favorites, & this recipe sounds yummy.

  13. Your soup sounds yummy. I’m shocked you can’t wear eye makeup, I was wearing it the next day with no problems. The eye make up remover you mentioned is what I’ve used for years, but right now I’m wearing Thrive eye mascara, brow and eye liner, no flakes, stays on and you wash it off using water and wash cloth. Oh I will say now that I have 20-20 need readers for close up and on computers. Just buy them mostly at TJ Maxx.
My cold weather comfy at home are sweats or love the athletic pants and tops with material called scuba. So do soft you could cuddle and fall asleep.

  14. Pam, great to hear from you. I hope you are resting in comfort in your recliner and blanket.
Thank you so much for sharing your friend Addie’s Tomato Basil Soup, contributed by her sister-in-law, Jennifer. I will make this. I love Trader Joe’s Organic Tomato soup in the carton. It’s easy and so convenient.
    Take TLC.

  15. So happy that you checked in! Somehow it didn’t come through to me until later than usual. You look happy, cozy, and comfy. I never received a warning about make up. Interesting! Well. One down and one to go. I am hoping that Texas and other states not used to the cold can manage safely. Stay healthy and safe.

  16. The very best while you recover. With the big storm we all need to stay home, get cozy and have a great 🍲.

  17. So happy to know round 1 went well! And I’m also happy to know you’re making that Tomato Basil soup. Man—it’s so delicious & couldn’t be easier. I hope Mr. B loves it! ❤️ Stay warm, stay well, rest easy. Peace & Joy to you, my friend.

  18. Hi Pam, I’m so glad that your cataract surgery went so well. I’ve never had cataract surgery, but I’ve been using Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover for years. It’s gentle on my sensitive eyes and yet it removes the waterproof mascara I like to wear. I definitely recommend it! We’re expecting the arctic blast to move through the New Orleans area on Sunday afternoon and evening. I’ll be busy tomorrow moving all of my potted plants inside for the duration, which will be through Tuesday. At least we aren’t getting any of the ice or snow that other parts of the South are expecting. But perfect weather for you to just snuggle up and take it easy.

  19. Thank you for sharing your soup recipe, Addie! Perfect for these snowy days. What have I done today? Watched it snow!! And watched your live broadcast with Shana!
