Monday Notes at My House

Monday notes

Happy Monday, all!  Welcome to my Monday notes at my house.

Today’s Monday Notes at my House covers so much, but I must begin with Mr. B helping me take down all of the Christmas decor…it is actually sad for both of us.

And, I said yes to him when he asked that two of the lighted garlands stay up for awhile…basically greenery with lights!  He loves the lights in the house.

Can you guess my winter decorating theme…yes, it is pine cones.  I do love pine cones around, especially from September through March.

So, we celebrated our accomplishments with good food, lights, candles, and watching football.

As I promised on Saturday, I do have more warm weather styles on sale for you today….there are so many cute items to ready us for spring or cruises or warm weather winter!

So let’s get started with a fun meeting….

MONDAY NOTES AT MY HOUSE – HELLO TO DOT

Monday Notes

I stopped by to visit Addie and Addie’s Boutique last week and ran into one of the first people I met in Abilene…the fabulous Dot!

She looked amazing in her black and gold outfit….and that red lipstick.

I wrote about Dot in the post 5 WAYS TO QUICKLY LEARN A NEW TOWN, on October 21, 2024.

Dot helped my daughter and me when we visited the boutique where she works in her 80s… and she works there just for fun.

It is called Poppies & Pearls, and their tag line is Immerse yourself in a world of timeless elegance and exquisite style….still love that!

It was so much fun to run into her and know she shops Addie’s as well…she also went to school with Addie’s mom.

Dot told me when we first met that she dresses up every day for her day…no matter what it holds…and now I know that to be true.

Thanks for being such an inspiration, Dot.

MONDAY NOTES AT MY HOUSE: FAVORITE GIFTS

Monday Notes

The last time we were in Fredericksburg, Mr. B offered to buy me some lovely jewelry for an anniversary/Christmas gift.

I actually turned that down, and told him what I really wanted was a nice recliner….my daughter was not shy to tell me that I am nuts.

But, I really wanted a more comfortable place to read and watch television and just relax.

So, he sent me shopping and the first place I stopped was ASHLEY HOMESTORE.

Monday Notes

That is where I met POWER RECLINERS…had not experienced this before.

My new power recliner arrived this week and I do love it…it has a battery pack that we will recharge from time to time and I can charge my phone while in the chair if I need to.

It goes perfectly with the rest of our furniture and it us a lovely taupe.

The only problem is that Tux and Mr. B love it too…so we are sharing.

Monday notes

Another little gift that I love is a new coffee mug which reminds me in the mornings to ENJOY THE MOMENT.

It was easier to pack away my Christmas mugs with something this nice waiting in the wings.

MONDAY NOTES AT MY HOUSE: TALBOTS WARM WEATHER STYLES ON SALE

Monday Notes

On Saturday, I featured WARM WEATHER STYLES ON SALE at J.Jill and Chico’s.

It was inspired by friend’s planning cruises and by the warm weather winter we have been experiencing in West Texas, that has now left for a short time.

Now, let’s look at some of what Talbots has on sale in the warm weather styles beginning with this LIGHTWEIGHT SKORT available in two colors.

Monday notes

These shorts are available in five different colors.

I am seeing cruise in this photo.

These are the PULL-ON WASHED LINEN SHORTS in the watercolor/botanical print.

Monday Notes

Cute, colorful, and casual fun for a warm weather style.

This is the FRENCH TERRY T-SHIRT DRESS…I am a fan of French Terry…especially in casual clothing.

Monday notes

Or for a quieter version, consider this one in two colors.

This is the CREWNECK T-SHIRT DRESS – CABLE JACQUARD…would be a cute swimsuit coverup too.

Monday Notes

For those of you who are winter palette ladies, this dress comes in black and pink.

It is the LUXE PONTE EMBROIDERED DRESS.

Monday Notes

Talbots tee shirts are very soft and comfy, and this is the time to pick up a few on sale for warm weather ahead.

I ASK TUX TO SPREAD OUT IN HIS OWN CHAIR!!

  1. Your new chair looks so cozy – what a great spot to enjoy your new mug under a warm blanket. And since Mr. B wants to share it, I guess you know exactly what to get him for his next birthday! It is always fun to see Addie turn up in a post, and Dot is truly an inspiration. I am still working toward a smaller-but-better wardrobe, and have added several few transitional pieces from JJill and Chico’s this past week using your links. I am starting several new (or renewed) volunteer commitments this month, and want to feel confident that I look my best meeting my new supervisors and fellow volunteers. Dot’s “dress up every day” philosophy will serve me well, and I’m using Poppies & Pearls’ tag line as additional inspiration. I was thinking I should do a better job of dressing down in the new year, but every time I leave the house underdressed I end up not feeling like myself. I’m still resisting these summer fashions you’ve shown us (for now) because I bought so much this past summer that I haven’t even worn yet.

I look forward to doing a full wardrobe inventory as I continue trying to fit my smaller wardrobe into my even smaller house. I’m hoping to narrow each category of clothing down to fewer but favorite items, donating any pieces that don’t fit perfectly or coordinate well with the other pieces I’m keeping. I’ve probably gotten rid of at least one-third of my total wardrobe in the past year, and up to one-half in some categories, and I still have way too many clothes. Progress over perfection has become my mantra for the new year (I know we are supposed to pick one word, so maybe just “progress?”) and I want to keep moving forward with refining my style and shrinking my closet, even if the results aren’t perfection.

  2. I am with you! Every time I dress down to leave the house I do not feel like myself…and Dot really inspired me. Though her colors are not the same as me, I thought she spoke my adjectives…just not as colorful as me. Your yearly goals are good ones.

  3. Good Morning Pam & friends. We also left up a simple garland with white lights that I wound around the stair railing in the living room. And I have a snowflake tree that stays lit up year round in the dining room. The snowflakes are so small that I feel like they could almost be flowers. I also got a recliner last week. Mine is a oatmeal colored tweed wing chair (kind of like Tux’s chair) that can sit relatively close to the wall in a corner of the living room. Its very comfortable for reading and it fits the style of the room. Very happy with it. No warm weather in site for me but cute ideas for those lucky enough for getaways. I’m also taking a good hard look at what is hanging in my closet that I don’t reach for. I’ve started a bag for them.

  4. A snowflake tree! I love that, Kathie…and so would Mr. B. Now is the time to buy recliners…great sales on them and I agree that they are perfect for reading. When I get to the closet after cataract surgery one of my questions will be…what do I reach for the most! Thanks for being here this morning.

  5. Pam, would you consider doing a series about wedding guest dresses and dressy pantsuits?? My invitation says cocktail attire but the wedding is at 2:30 with reception after. I don’t want one of those three piece sequin outfits for mature women that I see (think Pisarro or Alex evenings) and am leaning toward a dressy pantsuit with heels, since I can wear a kitten or block heel. Cannot be white of course and rather it was not black unless it had some touch of color.
Any hints or help would be appreciated. I’m sure a lot of us are going to weddings this spring!

  6. We love our power sofa from La Z Boy. It is so much easier for me with my severe arthritis to sit comfortably and Trixy took over my recliner. I have no idea why younger people don’t like recliners. I can rest my head back with my feet up and read or watch TV in comfort. Those low back sofas are extremely uncomfortable for any age. I don’t buy furniture for the look that is trending, but only for comfort. I love your trow too. It looks so warm and cozy.
Our snow is melting and the temperatures are slowly rising into the 40-50 range. I so enjoy looking at snow on the mountains out my windows. It’s going to be quite a while before warm weather clothes will work here in Colorado. Tux looks very comfortable in his own chair. Mr. B needs his own recliner to enjoy. It is great to see Addie and Dot. They are both very inspirational women.

  7. Sorry Pamela, I need to read my text before posting! I meant your throw looks so cozy and warm. I love it!
    Sydney

  8. I know those Colorado mountains are beautiful when covered in snow…you are blessed to live there. I do not post warm weather clothes because I know they can be worn now…but because they can be worn later and on trips and they are available now at great prices. Some of these sales give you new clothing for later and that is why I do this…and they are selling well. Thanks Sydney.

  9. My husband and I both have recliners in our small condo vs a sofa (we have that “four chairs around a round coffee table” you sometimes see in decorators’ portfolios). It works for us very well. The recliners (Arhaus … the last ones from there lasted years and years, so we repeated the purchase) swivel and don’t look like recliners at all. For anyone in the market, go shopping; you won’t believe what you find out there. I use mine just like you use yours … a nice mug of something, a super soft, big throw, a good book on my kindle, or some hockey or football on tv. I second you on the Talbots tees. I have many, including a lot of stripes, though I like capped sleeve ones the best. I am always tempted by dresses and skirts for warm weather, but they just sit in the closet. I’m not buying any more. There! I’ve said it! Now to refrain :).

  10. Thanks for joining in, Linda. I am working right now, but tonight you will find me happy in my recliner!

  11. Good morning, friends. We just received a new couch and chair. It isn’t a recliner, our room wouldn’t easily accommodate, but I did buy an ottoman. We removed the tree and decor. So funny, my husband also asked for the bannister lights to be left up! The room is so cozy with them!

  12. Also meant to add that my dining table also has candles and pine cones that I collect from various places! So many of us think alike.

  13. Susan, would you be willing to share the time of year and location. What type of weather would be happening for this wedding?

  14. Good morning, good choice with the recliner. Enjoy each time you can relax and enjoy your coffee!
It was nice to see Dot again. She is an inspiration, and I like her advice, dress well each morning and then it is easy for the day. Blessings always

  15. It looks like Tux is enjoying a different chair so maybe yours is free. What a wonderful anniversary present. Looks very comfortable.

  16. I was so excited to run into Dot at Addie’s…two women who inspire me in my new community. Thanks Audrey.

  17. It is so comfortable and I can actually sit up straighter in it. For me, this was the perfect gift…and I am carful not to be in it too much!!

  18. Recliners are so comfortable!! My late mother’s recliner has a power-lift feature and vibration. I can’t bring myself to sit in it when over at Dad’s, but it has become my husband’s favorite spot.
I am also interested to see what outfit ideas you come up with for Susan. While I will be mother of the groom, I know the wedding will be on the very casual side, so “guest” dressing will likely be special enough. In my case, outdoors this summer in Alberta, Canada…so probably about 72 degrees-ish. There will be several days of meeting new family and enjoying the countryside, as well.

  19. Thanks for the details, Connie. Very helpful. I will but great thought to these events.

  20. Hi Pam,
You asked for time of year at the wedding I’m invited to-it is 26th of May, so will be nice and warm, but hopefully not hot. Central KY weather is changeable! The wedding is indoors in a cathedral, the reception is indoors too but at a very relaxed venue, with cocktails and dinner, but I think it is buffet. The invitation says cocktail attire. I think the bride is hoping for colorful floral and solid dresses among the guests. She’s my niece, a doctor, very proud of her. I’m 74, silver hair, tall and kind of slender to medium (Christmas cookies). Found a pantsuit/blazer I liked at Cinq a Sept but it was 900 dollars. That’s a lot for me!
    Thank you so much!

  21. Hi Pam,
Wow, what a beautiful gift that Mr. B gifted you for Christmas. What a perfect color, I look forward to hearing more about it once it’s delivered. My body is ready for one, but we are not making any big changes to our great room. We have three sofas, one very large. It’s a pretty sectional. This is the room that would be perfect for two recliners but huge changes have to be made to accommodate for two good size recliners. Everything I like is usually very expensive. As of now we are staying with what we have.
So happy for you, a place to sit and totally relax and joy. I bet your honey will want one too when you move into another home someday.
