Weekly Devotions for Women

devotions for women

Happy Sunday, friends.  It is time for another of the weekly devotions for women.

Weekly devotions for women are here to encourage you in a walk with Christ and to focus the beginning of your week on Him.

It was important to me to set aside one day of this blog for those of you who want to know more about the Bible and the Father.

Today, I begin our devotions with another personal story….

WEEKLY DEVOTIONS FOR WOMEN: THE POWER OF LIGHT

devotions

As a stay-at-home mom in the early days of our family, I was constantly looking for easy ways to make a little more spending money.

We were living on one income, and I desired new ways to supplement whenever possible.

God would later lead me to become a teacher, but early on I needed to discover ways to work at home.

Our next door neighbors made the decision to move to Florida and asked if they could pay me to watch their home until they were either ready to sell or come back.

I jumped at this opportunity.  So, they loaded the moving fan, locked the door, and headed out.

All, I was doing was watching for any problems with a sitting empty home.

Four months later, they called and said they were coming back for a visit and asked me to unlock the door, open the windows, and prepare the home for their visit.

I often had neighbor children around helping with my babies, and on this day I sent a young girl over to unlock the door and open the windows.

Watching from my kitchen sink as I washed dishes, I saw her come running out of the home onto the porch, holding her stomach, and bending over…I headed over immediately.

The family had cleaned out the house…except for the refrigerator…sitting for four months there was activity inside…and an overwhelming odor.

I did what every freaked-out woman would do…I called Mr. B.

Working together, we unloaded the filth and used every cleaning product known to man in an attempt to get out the odor….none worked.

It looked clean, but deep inside those walls the odor was trapped and horrendous.

devotion

We had one more last resort.

Mr. B called friends who came and helped him carry the refrigerator to the front yard…open the doors…and in the heat of a Texas summer…the sun beat down.

We were actually surprised that after two days in the sun, the refrigerator was like new…no odor…spotless…and ready to return to use in the house.

This was a significant lesson to me of the power of sunlight, and it’s ability to wipe out filth.

WEEKLY DEVOTIONS FOR WOMEN: GOD’S LIGHT

devotion

In the Bible, there are well over 200 references to “light.”

And, it’s ability to shine into darkness.

This time of year is such a great time to reflect on God’s light in our lives…the days are shorter, and we just completed a season where we enjoyed so much light.

Ponder how it overtakes darkness everywhere.

devotion

It is completely appropriate to pray for God’s light to shine into our lives to lead us and help us with life’s challenges.

So often, we do allow darkness to set in and God’s light can shine into it and, just like the refrigerator, clean things up inside….even what might be deep into the walls.

If you are looking for His love today…His guidance today…His healing today…pray for Him to shine a light into your heart.

He will always answer and take over the darkness.

Thank you for joining me today for weekly devotions for women…I hope this will bless you and help to prepare you for the week ahead.

Until then…..

LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE!

  1. Does anyone else remember that song we sang as children “ This little light of mine, I’m going let it shine, Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!” That was my immediate thought when I started reading your words today. I also am thinking about those little things we can do to brighten the lives of others as we let our “ lights” shine every day. In this world where there seems to be so much discord and anger, we can and should approach each day with the idea of not becoming part of the chaos, but be better, be above the anger and disagreements, be kind and, as you, Pam, would say, be joyful. The music at the end of your blog today is so beautiful…it made me teary.

  2. Hi Celia, One day last week, I prayed before going out to run errands and asked the Lord to use me to bless others while out. I had the most wonderful conversations with people that day. It was such a joy and, yes, it is part of letting our lights shine. I sing that song often and have always sung it with grandchildren.

  3. Thank you for a wonderful story and lesson. I hope everyone who stops in to read this today will take the time to listen to the beautiful hymn you included. It is gorgeous, and now I need to find the sheet music so my flute friend and I can give it a go.

  4. I never thought of God’ s light shining inside us will help us daily. To just pray that his light will shine inside us daily and it will help us each day.

  5. Thanks for your post today. Truly the light of our heavenly Father is what is needed in our lives. I would never have thought to move the frig, what an amazing truth.

  6. We were pretty desperate when we moved it. It wasn’t our fault, but we did not want them to lose an appliance.

  7. Thank you for blessing us this day with your words of wisdom and that beautiful music at the end. This week I have attended two funerals and received word Friday that my daughter in law’s father is now with Jesus. God’s light has shone through these sad days and will continue to do so. Thank you,

  8. Cheryll, I am so sorry to hear that you have faced so much at once. Another name for the Holy Spirit is the Comforter. I pray the Comforter will be with you now.

  9. Even in our darkest hours, God will shine His glorious light into our lives. Psalm 119:105: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Thank you for helping to start my week out on a beautiful path.

  10. Oh Celia, I though of that song too and its been in my mind ever since. Thank you Pamela. The sun is shining today and I reminded myself its a reflection of God’s love. Right now I’m feeling anxious over the outcome of some medical tests so its comforting to remember this.

  11. Thank you for the beautiful music at the end of your blog. I have gotten much from your Sunday sharing of life stories. The final idea on the refrigerator was brilliant and unexpected. You were able to save a very expensive appliance for your neighbors. Your light shines brightly to all of us that follow you.
